How do you like the preformance ? did you have an amd K6 ? What kind of vidio. The amd K7 keeps looking better and better. Real Tempting.
I previously had K6-3 400, but a GeForce blew out the motherboard. I am getting great performance with the K7M, now, but I am telling you there are many concerns. If you are seriously considering, subscribe to alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus and read some posts to get an idea of the problems. Among some of the highlights are memory (very particular about brands, no problems here), a 300w power supply (I am using a 250w with no problems). There are other MB manufacturers for Athlon out there. I have heard Gigabyte has a nice board, and I think Abit does too. You might want to check out www.tomshardware.com, I think he has a review of some Athlon MBs. I personally would wait for the KX133 chipset VIA will soon be shipping. (www.via.tw.com) It will support 4x AGP, and PC133 memory.

I recently bought the Asus K7M (600 Mhz Athlon) and have not had any trouble, except for a stupid BIOS upgrade. I had both Win98 and linux already installed and just swapped out the motherboard. Win98 asked for a bunch of drivers, and eventually came on line, while linux booted the first time.

Hi there,
I bought a new pc equiped with an AMD Athlon and I just wanted to know if there's anything I need to take into account when I install Linux.
There's a
special bootdisk for Athlon systems on the SuSE site, am I correct? I understand that this is necessary only if an older kernel is used. Which kernel is that? I've got SuSE 6.2 (with kernel 2.2.10).

It said "Needs Windows 95 or better". So I installed Linux...
