ok heres my question...i just want to make sure i can install suse on a slave hd... i got a 10.2 gig hd i got winders on..i know why put winders on such a big drive right!!!..hehe well im doing video work and still need the space.. anywyas i just took my 4.3 gig and installed it as a slave and am going to install suse back on it and it should all be ok right..
Yes, there shouldn't be a problem here. You still need to have a /boot partition before the 1024th cylinder, but it only needs to be around 10MB.
i just booted up winders and it detected it but cant access it cause theres nothuing on it, so far so good... so now im gonna reboot from the suse cd and do the install...i usuall dedicate a hd to each operating system but i wanna play around with this a bit... cause my removeable racks just took a dump on me..i also got the newest partition magic and instaled it in winders so i guess i could use that instead of lilo but if i use it instead of lilo should i just select to boot from floppy instead of mbr?just incase i have to trash winders? what is it called bootmagic or something like that...anyways is there anything else i need to do or forgot to do?
I would use LILO here, and install it in the MBR. This shouldn't bother Windows too much, and it means you can keep as much real control over it as possible, without resorting to commercial software. Make sure you also make a spare boot floppy as well, though. LILO can cope with most situations, and so there aren't many cases where you wouldn't wanted to use it (one of these being if you want a GUI boot loader, but that's just overkill).
