SaX has never worked for me. If I were you I'd just forget it and stick to xf86config.
I should say that `sax' saved my nickel, on a machine when I was not able to figure out `xf86config'. I'm surely far from being a specialist in video cards. On the other hand, there are other cases when it was not so helpful. My guess is that `sax' will improve over time, and will become the tool of choice. Just let it mature, hoping that enough competent people report bugs and problems they have with it. We should not be so impatient.
