Have just found out that my ISP (GTE WorldWind) has decided to block inbound telnet on port 23. Question is, can telnet be set to another port or is it cast in granite and I'm hosed ?
It can be set to any port as long as the client and server are on the same port it will work fine. If you are just talking about the client then it is easy just do: telnet hostaddress.com 26 Just an example. . .choose whatever port you wish. If you are running the server I would suggest switching to SSH instead. It connects using port 22 by default and it encrypts your traffic. The encrypting part being the more important part there. :-) Just a fun sidenote. . . using telnet you can have fun when you are bored. Many internet protocols use plain text to do their work. You can learn alot about how things work by playing with telnet and connecting to other ports. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darren R.
