This is weird. While logged as myself (not root), I have noticed that when I open an xterm window it appears "stretched out". By this I mean the window itself is a long rectangle, going across more that two-thirds of the desktop. The text in the window also appears stretched out, like this: u s e r n a m e # If I resize the window (i.e. make it smaller), the text still appears the same way. Any text I type in also appears in this stretched-out fashion, which make it extremely difficult to read (basically unusable).
I just upgraded to 6.3 last week, but this problem actually occurred before w/ 6.2. When it first occurred I thought I had fixed the problem by re-running sax (I had been having problems with sax, and since re-running it successfully seemed to fix things, I thought that was the problem). But I tried that again this time and the problem still exists.
This is where it gets weird. If I log in as root, this does not happen. I use the same shortcut icon for both root and user to start the xterm. Under the "execute" tab of the icon all I have is xterm -ls.
In my home directory I tried commenting out some lines referring to xterm in one of the config files (either .xsession or .xdefaults, I can't remember which right now). This didn't help - but I noticed that when I started KDE, I had an xterm automatically started on the task bar (fairly normal sized - but the text was still a little stretched out). I think this xterm was generated by the "failsafe" lines in one of the config files.
I'm not sure what to try now, except deleting the user and setting up a new one. I'm not confident that this will do any good anyway. Anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas? This is driving me crazy.....:-)
