I'm total new with Linux & Squid. We have a small network 4 client ms winnt and mswin 95, 1 Suse linux 6.3 server. We want to acces the internet from the clients with the linux box. So i thought we need a proxy server and i heard a lot about squid. We don't need it to cache web pages only to connect the clients to the internet. We are able to connect to the Linux box with tcp/ip. This my problem/question.
How do i configer squid, or is squid not a good choice for this situation, can someone send me a sample from etc/squid.conf for this situation. I also want squid to dial my ISP automaticly when a client want to acces the internet. I'm now using wvdial to connect to my ISP.
If you don't want the cache, squid is probably not the right solution. It can do what you want, but then the other clients still can't use ftp, telnet, irc, icq or almost anything else on the net. They would only be able to acces web-pages. This means that you would probably have to configure IP-masquerading anyway, and since that will allow you to access web-pages as well, there's no need to bother with squid. (Unless you decide you want a cache anyway.) I haven't set it up myself yet, but I think George Toft might have some concrete advice on his website. http://www.georgetoft.com As for dialing, you should look at diald. There is a page in the support database at SuSE's website describing how to get diald and wvdial to work together. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
