I have the same problem. Run this commands: $ TERM=vt100 $ export TERM $ tset Alternatively, if you are running CDE, add this to one of the menus in ~/.dt/dtwmrc "linbox" f.exec "remsh linbox xterm -name linbox -display $DISPLAY -sb -sl 2000" Of course this relies in the linux shell knowing what DISPLAY is set to, or you can replace it with your HP host name.
