You are not the only one having WVDIAL problems. Even though the creator(s)
of that program state that it works well now, that is not the case. The
problem with my WVDIAL in SuSE Linux v6.3 is that about 20 minutes after
dialing my ISP, I get the infamous 'PPPD has died' message, and subsequent
redials eventually result in a second error message: 'Modem not
responding...' This negates my need for 24/7 PPP access as I am trying to
create a ham TCPIP to Internet gateway. That needs to be nearly bulletproof
with little or no manual intervention... I hate to say it but Windows-9x and
2000 RC2, etc, have won in this case.... I can stay connected to my ISP for
weeks without having to redial... It is NOT an ISP timeout issue as I have
set up an unlimited access full time account with fixed IP address for my
gateway.... Perhaps there are some other things that I have overlooked, such
as a hidden time out timer paramater in some obscure configuration file...
Anyone have any suggestions? I am running the latest release of WVDIAL that
came with SuSE v6.3...
Thanks for your consideration....
