The z option on the tar command takes care of the unzipping. My guess is that the archive is not complete and therefore the errors.

Hello, I want to explode the file tkhylafax_3.2-1.tar.gz so I type tar xzf tkhylafax_3.2-1.tar.gz I get the messages gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file tar: Unexpected EOF on archive file tar: Child returned status 1 tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks George

George for a .gz file you must use gzip so you should be typing:
gzip -d tkhylafax_3.2-1.tar.gz - to decompress the file then do a tar.
You can decompress and explode with one command by typing:
gzip -dc tkhylafax_3.2-1.tar.gz | tar xzf -
Hope this helps Nevada
Try launcing Midnight Commander (file browser), highlight the tar.gz file and press enter. If you cannot see the contents, it is corrupted. mc is pretty smart about files - I've only had problems with files ending in .doc -- George Toft http://www.georgetoft.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
