Messages says X server died, but I can't find any clues as to why. Is nv11 to old for nouveau? Does nv11 require nouveau blacklist or disabling of KMS to get X started without using fbdev or vesa drivers?
Appending drm.edid_strict=0 to cmdline on boot got me into X, something I figured out 3 months ago but forgot about. Now I notice that Factory remains on X Server 1.9.3, same as in 11.4, while *buntu 11.04 was released in April with 1.10.1, and Fedora 15 was released in May with 1.10.2. :~( -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
