Surely this cannot be right (from Konsole in TW/Plasma, 15.1/KDE3 & 15.0/TDE):

Same thing in Debian 10/TDE, Mageia 7/TDE and Fedora 30/Plasma produce 5 modest output lines in their respective Konsoles.
Where is all that last line stuff coming from?
bash-completion.
Looks right, except in Ubuntu and Debian's TDE Konsoles, and Mint's XFCE-terminal, having bash-completion installed doesn't add the bloat: # set | egrep 'PS|PROMPT' GROUPS=() PROMPT_COMMAND='history -s' PS1='\[\e]0;\u@\h: \w\a\]${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\u@\h:\w\$ ' PS2='> ' PS4='+ ' Both do have it on the vttys, while bash completion is functional in the three Debian's TDE Konsoles. In 15.1/KDE3's Konsole:
set | grep -v xspecs | wc -l 2211
In Debian/TDE's Konsole:
set | wc -l 85
In Mint/XFCE-terminal:
set | wc -l 100 -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science.
