Wow, interesting! Have you looked at /var/log/messages for any strangeness? Have you tried running "arp" on 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.10? If something is funky with the firewall on 192.168.1.3, maybe it can't be trusted to log denys? Maybe run tcpdump on 192.168.1.3? "tcpdump host 192.168.1.10" Then, from 10 try pinging 3 with the firewall on and off. Maybe try "telnet 192.168.1.3 22" to watch the tcp session being established. Or not.
