Malte,

maybe a minor bug in your eyes? ;-) You say "user /dev/null does not exist"
- - that has nothing to do with the file /dev/null. Do you have a user
/dev/null defined in /etc/passwd (or LDAP or whatever source you use when
logging in)?

When the given user is not found, rpm takes root instead. That why it installs.
