Update:

It seems that this machine has been upgraded to a SUSE 9.0 kernel. My other
SuSE 8.1 machines are also running 2.4.21-151-default. They were upgraded
by YOU.

My 8.2 machines, also upgraded by YOU, are running 2.4.20-4GB-athlon.

Did someome copy the wrong rpm to the 8.1 update directory?
