How much memory is in that box?

Most of those services use more memory today than they did when
RedHat 5 came out (1997?). Check 'top', sort by memory. My guess
is that insmod'ing the iptables modules was the drop that made the
cup overflow.

Either add more memory to the box or start tuning.
