I want to know if someone have experience with the antivir InoculateIT of CA with SLES7. I am trying to install it but I am getting this error (see bellow), I was trying to jump some SO versions checking in the Ino scripts (gzipes in the package) but it not works, I see that it software its certified for SuSE 7.0 with kernel 2.2.14/16. Any experiences or clues for it.
IIRC ENF (as well as the on-access virus scanning feature) has been implemented as binary-only kernel module, which require certain kernel releases. Binary-only kernel modules are just crap, imho. Btw 1, the command line utility (inocmd32) refuses to run when _not_ called as "root". That's one of the reasons why AMaViS does not support InoculateIT 6, as AMaViS itself runs as user "vscan" (at least since SuSE Linux 7.3) [1]. Btw 2, it seems all Linux version have a (much) worser detection rate than the Win* version. See http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/tests.xml?200204 and http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/products.xml?table (the same scenario happend way back in the good ol' days as the first Win* version have been released. The first Win* versions missed viruses the DOS version detected). best regards, Rainer Link [1] probably sudo may help. But I personally won't use it here. -- Rainer Link | Student of Computer Networking link@suse.de | University of Applied Sciences, Furtwangen, Germany rainer.w3.to | http://www.computer-networking.de/
