sure is, in fact a firewall is really a router, it just blocks some ports
and addresses and filters packets. It all depends on what you want to do.
What type of routing are you talking about doing? With the right type of
cards, you can plug T1's and such into a linux box and totally replace a
standard (cisco, lucent, etc) router and do filtering on the packets
before they are sent out to the network interfaces.
