Mine doesn't. Please check your /etc/hosts (localhost must be in there),
your /etc/resolv.conf and your nameserver(s). All of them must (!) resolve
"localhost." and reverse.

The package nkitb-2000.3.2-3 (which contains telnet) is installed on my
6.4, and the md5sum for /usr/bin/telnet is
5ef916bed5863e55f5ac1fde59606d66 .
