Hi, Just a few weeks left to 42.3! According to the planned schedule¹ the package freeze will start Sunday. So we're now basically at RC1 level in a traditional development model. Package freeze means - the update crawler that automatically pulls from Factory will be turned off. Ie you need to submit fixes to openSUSE:Leap:42.3 explicitly! - maintenance rules will be applied to package submissions. So all package submission need a clear justification ie fix a bug - submissions that fail to pass ADI staging² will be rejected right away - additions of new packages may get rejected Please contact the release team³ ASAP if your package needs special treatment at this point! After the change to the :Submit sub-project for the Leap 42.3 kernel-source package the leaper bot adds Kernel:stable as a reviewer due to the lack of maintainers on the new sub project. This occurred most recently in https:// build.opensuse.org/request/show/502652. Hi, According to the roadmap version updates for 42.3 were meant to be completed two weeks ago. So let's be more strict with version updates from now on. [opensuse-releaseteam] Getting involved in Tumbleweed release management

Hi folks, I would like to become involved in the release management for openSUSE Tumbleweed, and I hope I'm addressing this message to the proper channel. If there is a more appropriate forum for this kind of request, then I'd appreciate if someone could point me into the right direction. I'm a member of the SUSE packagers team and my role there is, mostly, to handle Emergency Updates. In that function, I've been involved in SLE release management for a while now. I've also contributed a handful of packages to openSUSE Leap and Tumbleweed, and I've benefited a lot from the feedback and testing efforts the review team kindly provided. These experiences have made me curious about the inner workings of the distribution. Being exposed to the process from the user / developer side of things has given me a few insights, but I still feel like I don't know enough. Therefore, I'd like to volunteer some of my time for helping with the management of Tumbleweed. I figure, the best thing to do would be to take care those tasks related to devel:languages:haskell at first that other people are doing for me today, like, managing the appropriate adi staging areas, ensuring nothing breaks due to new submissions, etc. I could basically take some workload off the current team and kind-of eat my own dog food to get familiar with the procedures more than I am today. That should allow me to take on other responsibilities and get involved more in tasks outside of my "sandbox", so I can contribute to the effort to a greater extend. I've been a professional software engineer working with Unix/Linux for some 20 years or so, and I've also contributed to Gentoo, ArchLinux, and NixOS before, so I believe it's a reasonable assumption that I can grow into a productive role in the team without breaking everything in the process. :-) I'm curious to find out what you folks think about the whole idea and look forward to your feedback.
