Thanks all for your valuable inputs.

As the recent "thread" about for example systemd, I wonder how much community
resources
it could consume. And what is the best balance?

yes, too much unuseful rant and not enough concrete work :-(

What's pretty sure :

- on marketing side, it could be harder to become hot with a
version number of the package that seems old.

but who in the earth wonder of a package number? certainly not a basic user. certainly not me (out of fearing new stuff)

a big task of education and communication. Explaining correctly to a user
that has a too much new hardware, when to apply for another kernel
(kernel:stable)
and what will be the related consequences.

very easy: if the hardware is newer than the distro, it may not work...we need probably more easy to find and more acurate hardware lists (I always take time to find printer list)

IMHO most of the help provided on Linux lists (not only opensuse) is too much technical.

nobody should have to recompile a software.. or at least nobody that need an explanation :-)

in fact may be we too much rely on our excellent infrastructure and do not make enough effort on the beginners part of the doc.

may be or may be not :-)
