If you are still interested in the communication side of things I would recommend you join our news team[1] which is in desperate need of people who can and are willing to research, prepare and write content about openSUSE. And of course our development version can always use some love of a capable packager, I'm sure you can find tons of stuff to do there.
I think that, at least for now, I would really like to continue to work where I was before. Communications was enjoyable because of the writing and I really like to write. Packaging was also a lot of fun because it allowed me to get my hands dirty as well as learn more about things (since they will break at some point and fixing it can be fun). Factory was one thing that was recommended to me. I was told to either contact this list or the opensuse-factory list to get started since the person that referred me knew of my previous work.
