Hi Guido, yes, that is my intention. However the library has to support many more features to stay on par with the needs of the current applications in MATE and I'm yet to research and discuss the needs of supporting other backends apart from pulseaudio as it would add quite a lot of complexity to both the library and applications. To give you more insight, my GSoC project focuses on abstracting the pulseaudio mixer code from the MATE applications into a library and leaves the door open for future development to support other backends either during the GSoC (if time permits) or later. However I've realized I'd like to decide on supporting other backends sooner rather than later because the backends differ quite a lot in supported features. intend to start working on API for the mixer abstraction library I'm going to design for the project. I also want to examine some other UNIX operating systems and see their status on sound system support to address the portability concerns I have had.
are you planning to create something comparable to the gstmixer interface that was dropped in gstreamer 1.0?
