[opensuse-project] opensuse-user not on gmane any more?

I just noticed today that the gmane.linux.suse.opensuse.user group is missing from gmane.org - did the project request the list be removed from gmane? Just wondering if it was intentional or if something went wrong somewhere. Of course we still see people getting this wrong on a regular basis, but googling for "SUSE capitalization" doesn't reveal anything helpful. IMHO we need a wiki page covering the One Absolute Truth, and also a bit of the history behind it. I found this thread from 2005: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2005-08/msg00377.html but it didn't provide the full story. Additionally, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUSE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuSE are (somewhat depressingly) two entirely different articles, neither of which gives any real detail over the renaming from SuSE to SUSE. [opensuse-project] [GSoC-2014] Introducing Myself

Hi! I'm a student from India interested in participating in Google Summer of Code-2014 with openSUSE. I am interested in working on on the "Integrate Windows NTFS shadow volume browsing into openSUSE GUI tools" [1] idea. I've downloaded and used libvshadow through the command line. I got in touch with Greg Freemyer and packaged libewf through osc, as suggested by him to get a hang of how openSUSE development process works [2]. Can the idea of integrating Snapper Snapshot browsing into openSUSE Desktop [3] be integrated with the same idea? There could be a snapshot handling framework built into the desktop tool that could take care of both Snapper snapshots and Shadow Volumes. What else can I look into to get more acquainted with the community / development process? -My background- I have programmed with C, Perl, Python, Processing and Shell Scripts. I built a game for the Intel Perceptual Computing Challenge-2013 [4] and have experience with development for the Beagleboard and Pandaboard. I have also been able to write simple character device drivers for Linux, using Greg K-H's Linux Device Drivers as a guide. I have been an open source user for a long time, and have a commit integrated into GNOME's Anjuta IDE [5] I recently worked on testing the effectiveness of random number generators on a virtual machine with qemu.[6] I also have a fair know-how of git. Hello everyone, I am Karthik.S pursuing Information Technology and Engineering from National Institute of Technology,Karnataka,India. I am interested in working on the Travel Support Program(TSP) project of open-SUSE. I have contacted the mentor, Ancor González Sosa and have already started contributing for the project. I have experience in application development using Ruby on Rails, and have worked with the development team of a couple of websites based on RoR. I have always been an avid follower of Open Source development, and in turn very passionate about contributing back to the community(very eager to send my first open source pull request!). I feel that working with a prestigious and a well-established organization like open-SUSE will be an excellent opportunity to achieve the same and fulfill my motto. It always gives a great feeling to be a part of a community/family that dedicates the use of technology and science to simplify millions of lives all over the globe. Hello everyone, I am Achal Aggarwal and I am posting this here to discuss about the project of adding support for ePub files in Atril. First of all I like to introduce myself. I'm a Computer Science and Engineering student in BVCOE, New Delhi, India and currently in the 4th year. Hey! I am a Sushant Dinesh studying Computer Engineering in National Institute of Technology Karnataka,Surathkal. I am interested in working on the git-review project mentored by Dominik Bamberger. I have experience in working with ruby,RSpec and git. I have also contacted the mentor to get to know more about the project. On his suggestion, to get to know the code base better I went ahead and solved a bug in the repository(my first open source contribution! :) ). I have always wanted to contribute to open source projects but I never knew where and when to start. [opensuse-project] Project: Porting of the Plasma-Active Bodega client to openSUSE

Hi! I am Abhijeet Nikam. I am currently studying Computer Science and Engineering in Amrita School of Engineering (Coimbatore), India. My programming skills include: C/C++, Python, HTML and CSS. I have a good basic understanding of QT,QML and Git version control system. I am currently extensively going through QML tutorials and learning to build small applications using it. I am new to open source contribution but I have taken part in many FOSS related workshops and had got selected for Hack-fest Workshop under KDE. I would love to apply for GSoC with this projecct under openSUSE and become a part of this community. It would be great fun to work with experienced mentors and receive guidance throughout your journey to become a part of it. I believe I have the determination towards my goals to deliver on my goals and not leave out things halfway or unfinished. I will really appreciate any kind of guidance from mentors related to the project. I would love to start with easy tasks and later taking on tough ones in order to build a strong proposal for GSoC 2014. Hi all, At long last the meeting minutes from the Board Face to Face meeting in Nuremberg are up on the wiki: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_meeting#Face_to_Face_Meeting_2014-02-… Thanks to SUSE for hosting the meeting and thanks to those meeting with the board over the weekend for taking the time. There are plenty of opportunities to help the project. The booth boxes are right around the corner and with this a reboot of the advocate and local coordinator effort. We have also reach agreement to re-instate the reimbursement of locally produced materials. We'll create some guidelines and a new team needs to be formed. We hope that with some modification to the TSP app both reimbursement streams can be handled in a similar way. We all feel we got a lot of stuff sorted out and ready to roll.
