I'm almost certain the "user X" you mention is a gnome user. I can tell that for 2 reasons. One is the silliness of proposing the change of name (like that would cause any effect except for wasting the universe's energy). And two is for focusing great efforts in trying to make it look like a big deal a thing that is almost completely silly.
