Im suse 10.0 my mouse go crazy in moments. I get message in my system log: psmouse.c: bad data from KBC - bad parity Then I found after "google-search" that error about I wrote above come from bad kernel code. That`s only reason why I should to compile and install new kernel. I am obstinate and I wan`t to lose my suse 10.0 because I have a lot good software installed on it. In general, unlike Windows, you don't have to reinstall software when you upgrade your OS, especially if the installed software is in /usr/local and /usr/local is a separate partition. Even if it isn't, simply back it up, install Linux. Linux and Unix systems do not have a registry. If you mingled your software with the base OS, then that is a different story. There are a number of scenarios, but with SuSE you can do an upgrade. While clean installs are always preferred, I've found
