Fresh install a few days ago, KDE3 and Gnome with libdvdcss 1.2.10-6.1 installed and Pacman repo enabled. SMplayer plays audio CDs OK, but attempting to play a video DVD or .iso file made from a DVD locks up the machine (except for mouse) within a few seconds of image display in output window whether run in Gnome or KDE. Video is Nouveau/2D/C61 6150SE rev a2. Is this a bug someone who can do something about it already knows about? Ideas where to start troubleshooting?
try with VLC
or simply ffmplay
I forgot about ffmplay, but before he left with his machine today we tried (IIRC): Installing latest Ubuntu release where 10.2 used to be default video player SMPlayer In 12.1 Gnome session (only with Orca enabled/active) SMplayer VLC KDE3 session SMplayer VLC In 11.3 KDE3 session SMplayer VLC In 11.0 KDE3 session Kaffeine Most if not all attempts to play CDs worked. No attempts to play DVD worked longer than maybe 10 or so seconds. SMplayer would play mpegs from HD (but not the only DVD .iso I tried). Lockups didn't always happen, but the players did become completely unresponsive after trying any DVD. Above mostly seems to point to a hardware problem, which I just wrote Bob an email about. The inside of his machine was somewhat nasty with tobacco goo and dust when I opened it. Hopefully a drive lens cleaning will solve this for him. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg.
