That was my first guess too, but now I dont't think it is a mechanical resonance for two reasons: 1) plugging in the headphones makes it go away and 2) (as far as I remember) it is different depending on if you use ACPI or APM. With ACPI there is noise when the system is idle, with APM when there is load. Could it be CPU frequency scaling, which doesn't work for me on 9.1 BTW? -Teemu
