Example:
If I send a press release about openSUSE 11.1 to Computerworld.dk, they will delete it instantly - discarding me as a random geek or zealot promoting a useless geeky product of interest to noone.
But.. if Novell.dk - national subsidiary of a well known multinational software market player - were to send an official looking press release about openSUSE releases to selected IT-media - I think the media would be much more likely to pay attention - and write about it.
We have a new press agency, i will ask how they do it. Why a press agency? Well, they have (should have) all the contacts, are recognized by the press, and do most of the work for you. And yes, they ask us before sending "0penSuSE 11 1/3 now in a Red Box - Red Hat fears the Frog!" :-)
In Germany this works usually quite well. Here's Novell's press release covering openSUSE 11.1 launch: http://tinyurl.com/8j8gtg
Afaik this is sent out to many press people automatically. Best M
Unfortunately, I have a feeling that noone at Novell.dk even knows openSUSE 11.1 has been released. At least they've never even bothered to put a news item on their website or anything.
To be honest: we concentrate on the German and English pages on the release, there is a lot of room for improvement ... But very good point, i will put that on our list.
We have an internal newsletter where also all openSUSE stuff is mentioned (really), but this is something different.
