I updated IPAGothic & co fonts to the newer version 003.02 on OBS M17N project. Let me know if any problem occurs with this update. This will be submitted to FACTORY later if no regression is found.
Thanks for doing this. The problem is, that the look and feel of those newer fonts are different from that of older ones. Newer fonts are a little bit thinner than old ones and to be honest, I don't like them. :-( Please look at some screenshots for example: [KDE System Settings] http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPA_Fonts_003.01.pn... http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPA_Fonts_003.02.pn... [Firefox] http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPA_Fonts_003.01_fi... http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPA_Fonts_003.02_fi... [Kate] http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPA_Fonts_003.01_ka... http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPA_Fonts_003.02_ka... The difference between 003.01 and 003.02 is distinguished on Kate. In addition, I've taken a screenshot of this Thunderbird window (UTF-8 encoding). http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPA_Fonts_003.02_th... You might agree that this is strange-looking and I can't see 'underlines' in above URLs - 'underlines' and 'spaces' are not discernible to the eye. Several months ago, I built Takao-fonts packages which are based on version 003.02 of IPA fonts on my home project. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=takao-fonts&project=home%3AHeliosReds I encountered the similar problem with those fonts and I gave up submitting a request to M17N. Is there any way to solve this problem ?
Also, a new font package, IPAexGothic and IPAexMincho are added to M17N:Devel project. This is a "slimmed-down" version of former IPA fonts. After some tests, I'm going to populate to M17N.
Although it is not specific to IPAex* fonts, there's a similar problem. I've also taken a screenshot of OOo with IPAex* fonts. http://hyperion/heliosreds.homelinux.net/opensuse/sample/IPAex_OOc.png In particular, smaller characters of IPAexMincho are bad-looking. If we don't have any good solution for this problem, I'll forward this topic to -ja list and ask Japanese users how we can/should do.
