No compose characters possible with asian language setting

Hello! I'm currently using SuSE 9.0 pro for both german and japanese input. This works fine so far, by setting the variables LC_CTYPE to ja_JP.UTF-8 and LANG to de_DE.UTF-8, but nevertheless I experienced a problem: With the LC_CTYPE set to japanese and an input method running (currently kinput2), I cannot type european language compose characters any more - at least the ones I used to produce with two sequent keystrokes ( ´ and e for é for example). The rest of my (german) keyboard layout works all fine, and with LC_CTYPE set to german, é's, à's, ô's, etc pose no problem, but then, of course, I cannot input japanese... This problem seems also to be existent for other language settings that use an input method, I tried it out with a friend who uses chinese input (also on SuSE 9.0 pro). We (my friend and I) are currently writing an article about asian language input with StarOffice/OOo, so we would really appreciate any help or hint concerning this problem. Thanks. Marcel Boeing

[opensuse-m17n] CJK font display more broken in 10.2

Hi, Already in SuSE 10.1 only those han characters that are present in the Japanese charsets (JIS) were reliably rendered in x11 applications, even if all CJK languages (including traditional and simplified Chinese) were specified as languages in YaST. When typing the chinese greeting ni3 hao3 你好 nin2 hao3 您好 the first of either of the two was represented by a square. This is now still the case in SuSE 10.2. But things got worse. In SuSE 10.1 Emacs was an asylum where everything worked. With SuSE 10.2 Emacs is no longer any different, except in that it refuses to accept SCIM input, as I reporterd earlier. Sorry to dump these raw findings on the list. [opensuse-m17n] How to add custom designed truetype font support for TeX

Hi, I have a custom truetype font that I am using with OpenOffice with no problem. However I am interested in using it with latex (especially with pdflatex). The font itself is providing the hexagrams of YiJing (aka I-Ching) There seems to be so many different ways of doing it as described in various web sites, yet what is the recommended procedure for SUSE version 9.3 so I can use them with latex.
