SuSE 8.1 - auctex menu doesn't appear in Emacs

My question is actually a little bit off topic, sorry! But I was very puzzled yesterday when I wanted to look at my CJK-LaTeX files (which I didn't do since SuSE 8.0) and no auctex-menu showed up in Emacs (almost unchanged SuSE 8.1). I can't believe that this is true for others as well, or did anybody else see this? Even when I type "M-x load-library tex-site" Emacs says "done" - but no menu anyway. How can I check what's going wrong? Thanks for any hint, Andrej Keiper
