This is strange. After I installed a couple of favorite ksplash and moodin kdm themes. I have been able to boot and start kde without any kded crash at all. I mean -- it is working flawlessly.
I wonder if there is a bad setting in the original /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc that is removed or corrected when using the kcontrol kdm theme manager that strips the original commented kdmrc to one with bare settings??
I don't use any GUI to manage kdmrc. The only changes made here are the several I make with a text editor, including useTheme=no, the same ones made for 42.1 and many releases prior. Other than no KDM theming, I use default theming mostly everywhere in KDE3, main exception being WRT handling GTK. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
