An alfa version of media manager based in udisks2 is available:

ok, this is going back a bit, but i have a case that the media notifier seems to identify a new usb device, but then it fails to mount it. That's in suse 12.1 and anything 12.2 to date, with kde3. anything (i have tried 11.4 qnd 11.1) before 12.1 seems to not have the mounting problem. but, from 12.1 on, the mount becomes recursive on the first identification: if in conqueror, we see a /media/camera/, subsequent clicking on it only becomes /media/camera/camera, /media/camera/camera/camera/camera etc.
the camerais a fujifilm 500 and suse 11.1 and 11.4 can easily read it, copy it and erase it, alas, 12.1 and 12.2 to date can not even mount it, in kde3 that is...
