I am trtying to import my address book, all email addresses, ditribution lists, groups, etc from KDE3,5 to KDE4,6 in kmail. Can't seem to find where that info is stored. I kinow that a lot of that info is on vcf cards. (I have about 40 of them, which I copied over) but they don't show up in the 4.6 kmail address book unless they are each imported individually but even then they are just a hodge podge of email addresses with no organization at all.
The new address book looks completely different to me. This would be a real show stopper for me if I can't get it. Wouldn't be able to use KDE4 then.
It's not new, the addressbook in 11.4 is exactly the same as 11.3 - except some bugfixes.
Try fiddling with the addressbook/contacts setup in Systemsettings -> Personal Information
I think the problem is he's migrating from KDE 3.5, in which case the address book is quite different.
Bob, can you describe in more detail what import process you're trying to use? KDE 3.5 stored the addresses in one big std.vcf IIRC, and you should be able to just copy that over and import it all as one.
Hello Tejas. Thanks for replying, and yes, I am trying to import my address book from 3.5 to 4.6. The procedure that I used is this: Open the 4.6 Kaddress book, go to File > Import > Vcard. Opens up a menu and cli to navigate to the vcards, I can import tne one std.vcf card. (I have twenty) and a list of some email addresses will show up in the Kaddress book. Not in alphabetical order or arranged in groups (Business, Family, Friends, etc.) and nothing can be done with them. Cannot edit them or categorize them and they are all not there. I suspect that the other cards might represent those groups but I am not sure and when I try to import them they just create double entries on some of the email addresses.
