I've been finishing the branding work for 11.3 this week, and have been documenting how to do it as I go. The first draft is attached. Comments? If I was hit by a bus tomorrow, could you do openSUSE 11.4 branding? (Lubos doesn't need to answer that ;)). [opensuse-kde] Eric 4.4.5 released

Version 4.4.5 of the Qt Python IDE Eric has been released. The most recent version on the openSUSE repositories is 4.4.2, which was released in March. There is also a 5.0.0 release candidate. Maybe 4.4.5 can go in the KDE4:desktop and backports repository and 5.0.0 can go in KDE4:playground. Currently, at least in openSUSE 11.2, the KDE4:desktop repositories have 4.3.6, which was released in august, while the backports and KDE4:playground repositories have the more recent stable 4.4.2 version. So I abanded this build. However I will package 4.4.5 in Community. It is to late in the release cycle for openSUSE 11.3 to have it moved to KDE4:desktop and backports. I am glad to see I can now open Dolphin as root and click on a file and it opens in kwrite without having to go through all kinds of girations. Thanks developers. [opensuse-kde] Call for testing: on-demand package installation

Hello, in OBS in home:llunak:ksuseinstall there are packages branched from KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop that have one experimental feature added: When a needed package is not installed, the user is offered its installation. Currently there is support for debuginfo packages, applications that can open a specific file type if none is installed and multimedia codecs for Amarok. The plan is that this feature makes it into 11.3, so please test and provide feedback. The things I'm especially interested in: - the UI and the workflow could quite possibly be improved (currently it uses Yast modules to save me a lot of work, and it's also done this way because of a certain catch mentioned below). So, imagine you are Joe User the Clueless who's just installed 11.3 and think about how this would or would not work and how it could be improved. The catch here is that this is not only a technical problem but also a legal :(. This can quite easily help with the problem of installing packages that cannot be shipped as a part of openSUSE because of various stupid patent stuff etc. The problem is that we should not even encourage too much usage of such packages. Don't ask what that means exactly, because I don't know, and probably not even lawyers know for sure, but something like "MP3 support is missing, press Yes to install it from Packman" is simply very unlikely to make it past our lawyers. I think the guideline could be that the user has to know it's an extra and that it's not part of openSUSE, and thus has to make at least some effort, not just confirm a dialog. There is a reason why adding community repositories in Yast fetches a list of those from a 3rd party site and knows nothing else than the URL of that list. Yes, this all sucks. - there could be more places where this could help a lot, either by saving the default installation size by not installing packages that most users wouldn't use, or by handling something where such on-demand installation would be helpful to many users. From 11.2 the Nepomuk/Strigi config module comes to mind - we had it disabled by default and some parts were not installed, so enabling it required not only flipping the checkbox but also installing something. [opensuse-kde] 11.0 users - 11.0 about to become unsupported

As hopefully all openSUSE 11.0 users know, 11.0 support will be discontinued by the end of this month (http://en.opensuse.org/SUSE_Linux_Lifetime). As a consequence none of the KDE repositories will build anymore for 11.0 following the date and the packages will be removed, so if you want them, the time to download/install them is now. [opensuse-kde] Enabling NetworkManager no longer switches from hardware id to host name in openSUSE 11.3 RC1

Hello Listmates, In previous versions of openSUSE (by default), enabling the NetworkManager switched from "hardware id" to "Host Name". Hardware ID: CPE0xxxxxxxx-CM000xxxxx Host Name: opensuse In openSUSE RC1 it no longer works. It still uses the "hardware id" !! Can we please fix this now? Cheers! [opensuse-kde] konqueror not loading view profiles from CLI argument

i'm runing KDE 4.4.5 (beta 2) on oS 11.2 quite happily. one thing puzzles me though: for some time i can't get konqueror to open any view profiles through command line arguments (incl. desktop shortcuts). this used to work all the time, from KDE 4.1 onwards, but some time recently it stoped. konqueror always opens the default (filemanagement) profile, no matter what profile i specify with konqueror --profile <profile name>. once started i can open profiles via settings -> load profile, so it's not a catastrophy, just annoying. i can't seem to find any KDE bugs in this regard and am wondering if i'm the only one experiencing this? -- thanks, phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help(a)opensuse.org
