Are you clicking past the message with the attachment before OOo opens the tempfile where kmail saves the attachment? This causes kmail to delete the tempfile, ancient bugreport from me on this one here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39537
NOT clicking past, just clicking on the attachement.

By choosing "Open with..." and entering "soffice" the attachment will open OK. Entering "oowriter" gives the error "File [...] not found". OpenSUSE 10.2 OpenOffice_org-2.2-11.1 The workaround is thus to change the KDE file bindings to open office files with "soffice" instead of "oowriter" et al. -- !++ !
