What the hell has a 'xhost +' to do with a browser start? 'xhost +' opens your X to the world. I don't beleve, that SuSE Portal suggest this. Du you run Firefox as a different user? In this case 'sux' is the better choice.

I understand what 'xhost +' does. And yes, it does open the X server to "the world." However, as Leen pointed out, it is a temporary fix that enables Firefox to be run for the first time after an upgrade. And, "the world" as you so eloquently put it, consists of me, me, and me. Wow! Security on my laptop is horrible! <sigh> None-the-less, I agree that 'sux' would be the better choice under most circumstances. Also, there are articles on SuSE's Portal that speak of X server issues with various apps, such as with Firefox-0.9.x. Under certain conditions after an upgrade Firefox must be started with root access to start at all. Thereafter, Firefox can be started by any user. And Leen's post confirmed what I found, soon after my first--premature--post. http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/projects/mozilla/firefox/READ... AND http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?showtopic=3413 --------- snip --------- Because of missing registration features in firefox 0.9.x you have to start firefox as root the first time after installation. If you get a message like -----8<------------------snip--------------8<-------------- Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: XDM authorization key matches an existing client! ----->8------------------snap-------------->8-------------- you have to disable the X authorization with command 'xhost +' and startup firefox. After the initial startup you can close your X session again by 'xhost -' and you should be able to start firefox from now on without problems. --------- snip --------- BTW...I found and read the ../mozilla/firefox/README-0.9.x file just after my initial post. I fixed the problem in no time, hence the second post-- (DISREGARD - FIXED). And, without me or me having any unauthorized access to me's laptop. Thanks for your concern`:/ Chris/CMS
