By other programs I mean say KWrite, KSpread.
here w You say CUPS is setup to print to a remote printer, so you know your connection to the printer is ok. I would first check the settings in the kprinter window to see if it is finding or going to that printer as well, don't just assume it does. Also, you might want to update your KDE files from SuSE to bring your kmail up to a new version.
I am using Yast and YOU. These havnen't updated kde or kmail. Were your updates to KMail v1.5.3-2 SUSE released?.

All of my updates have been SuSE supplied, yes. Are you having trouble with all mails or just one that you have tried to print? It could be that the mail you are trying to print is corrupt in some way that Ghostscript can't handle it.
