Hi - Being relatively new to SUSE Linux, not sure if these are KDE questions or general Linux questions. I'm running Suse 7.3. Background: prior to installing SuSE 7.3, I had installed RedHat 6.1, but never did much with the system and eventually removed it. Although I do have some Linux background, it is spotty over time. 1) When I shut down lately, I notice the "Shutdown or reboot" submenu is wider than it used to be, and when I click on the down arrow to list the selections, one of them says "Warning: mapfile created with lba32 option". This option is selectable, and if you choose it, the system reboots back into Linux with no changes or problems that I can see. What's up with this? Also --- 2) I did a "df" and it's reporting that my file system is 96% full! Only have /boot, / and /swap partitions defined, so I assume it's talking about "/", which is 1.8M+ in size . My personal id takes up about 50M, and my wife and son's are each at about 41M. I tried deleting some huge logs in /var/log, but subsequent "df"s displayed no change in reported statistics. Any useful suggestions will be appreciated. 3) What with all the horror stories about upgrading to 8.0 and 8.1 that I've seen on this list, I am very reticent to upgrade to newer distributions of KDE. It seems to me that you really have to know how KDE works under the covers to achieve a good upgrade (I define good as "things that worked or were there before still work and are still there afterwards" +and+ "new things work and are not affected by old things"). Anyone care to comment? Regards, Bill Stephens Sungard Availability Services Phone: (215) 351-1099 Fax: (215) 451-4436
