I recently packaged simple-scan, which is, hmm, a simple scan application :-) It feels much better as a GNOME app than xsane, and so I'm wondering if we should switch to it by default instead of xsane.
I was just thinking of packaging this yesterday, when I installed it from tarball.
Can people give it a try and evaluate it?
Sadly it turns out my Canon scanner is totally unsupported in Linux, so I didn't get to do much testing. But at first glance it certainly seems much more GNOMEy and approachable than xsane (which I admit I have not used in years, since I've never had a compatible scanner).
Note that it doesn't ship with a gimp plugin, so that's one big difference with xsane.
