Why do you want to change something, what simply works? And after my
experiences i can say it works better.

Pidgin is not good. It's not even enough stable to be said it's stable. It doesn't even feature basic functionality of each protocol.

Hm, so i´m lucky guy, because Pidgin works for me quite stable ;-)

Only a bit of every protocol but yeah, they say it can replace ICQ, MSN, Gadu-Gadu, AIM and more.

I doubt Linux will get a good and stable IM even in future.

Gaim had a development, slow, but it had. Instead of reaching "higher levels", what we've got? Not fully done software, which is suitable to be flushed in the toilet.

The only chance is now closed source software or multiplatform software or even software compiled using libwine.

Nice, don't you think?

If we need to judge, yes, Pidgin over Empathy, but still both use libpurple which is sadly a piece of crap.

Better would be if Empathy would use some libs directly to gain protocol support.

Galaxium is worth a look. It had few active developers, then development stalled, then new developer started work I think they're going back to work. In future it could be a good choice.

InstantBird would be also interesting, if only it wouldn't use crappy libpurple.

The truth is that open source software is useless when it comes to VoIP.
Skype is a choice, regardless the compatibility with PulseAudio and the Linux support.

Okay, I sad enough bad, what needed to be said.

I´m an common user and i want to use working software. And Empathy doesn´t work as i expect nowadays. Honestly, i don´t care, whether it is closed or open source. Just let it works.
