Feature changed by: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) Feature #313851, revision 5 Title: Add NetworkManager to laptop pattern - openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed + openSUSE Distribution: Rejected by Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) + reject reason: Nowadays, openSUSE instead detects if there is a + wireless card on install. It will install and use NetworkManager if + there is one, otherwise it will used wicked. Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Michal Vyskocil (mvyskocil) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: During an installation NetworkManager should be preferred instead of traditional /etc/init.d/network at least for laptops. It seems that NM runs faster than traditional ifup things and in overall it fits the standard laptop usage more, than static network configuration. Optimizing a boot time, aka 2 second boot (http://lizards.opensuse.org/2012/07/26/optimizing-a-boot-time-aka-2-second-b...) Discussion: #1: Stanley Miller (stan_qaz) (2012-07-31 21:37:14) This would be far less confusing for new to Linux users. #2: Tim Hardeck (thardeck) (2012-08-02 17:45:10) Yes, I would agree too. Even on a desktop system most people would expect easy WLAN configuration and an automatic DHCP request if the LAN cable is plugged in after start. NM also does support static network configurations and is imho more intuitive than setting up WLAN by Yast. For server installations it could be changed during the setup process. + #3: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) (2016-11-22 12:00:57) + Nowadays, openSUSE instead detects if there is a wireless card on + install.
