Feature changed by: June C. (jclrb) Feature #320825, revision 5 Title: Sell pre-installed OpenSUSE USB drives and demo it in store openSUSE.org: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Neutral openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Neutral Requested by: June C. (jclrb) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: I know opensuse sells DVDs. Since opensuse doesn't sell pre-installed computers, how about selling pre-installed USB sticks? Have a demo laptop in stores with the opensuse USB so people can play around with it. If they like it, they can buy the USB to use with their computers at home. Benefits: * Less start-up cost than selling pre-installed computers * Sell online or in store * Try before you buy * Easy way for people to use linux without worrying about dual boot or accidentally installing over the existing OS. (Specially kids who are using the family computer.) Implementation: * Demo guest account * Demo a variety of free-format documents, music, and video that people can open to see how applications work * Demo a huge variety of software (music/video editing, screen reader/magnifier, etc) * Include documentation in the USB or in print * KDE? GNOME? Both? Bonuses: * Salespeople can show customers how to boot from USB (BIOS or "Press ESC to show boot menu") * Salespeople have an excuse to try to sell a new computer along with the opensuse USB. (In that case they could offer to install it to internal disk?) * Salespeople can recommend computers known to work well with opensuse. Discussion: #1: Per Jessen (pjessen) (2016-05-03 13:10:14) To my knowledge, (open)SUSE does not sell the openSUSE distro on DVDs or boxed sets or otherwise. + #2: June C. (jclrb) (2016-05-05 19:40:12) + Hmm, I could swear there used to be opensuse dvds in store. + Well, I'll try this when I go back to college (not selling, but having + an event where students and others in the area can try it and get an + usb install). Should be a lot of fun! -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/320825
