Feature added by: matthias propst (l1zard) Feature #317724, revision 1 Title: Yast Module to build a home server with owncloud openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Desirable Requested by: matthias propst (l1zard) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: An easy way to install and maintain a centralized data and file server for non it experts. Test Case: Maybe somebody can build a test image in susestudio that contains the following: * owncloud * samba * a script that makes it easy to setup this things We can than post a well documented manual how to using this script for setting this up. If we get a good response maybe than we could develope a yast module and provide that later to the public. Use Case: People with more than one device that wanted to have all files on cenral place so that they can be sure all information you properly have is available from each device. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: This just came up to mind because i am working my way through building a home server that provides files and information on all my devices i have at home synchronized. I use owncloud and samba to set this up. Since i am an IT Pro this is not that heavy to accomplish but it takes some time to overcome all the trouble in building the dns server and the routing tables from scratch. How about building a yast module that would allow to easily setup a home server using samba and owncloud. Most people are having more than one device nowadays and owncloud is the perfect solution connecting all devices together sharing the same files and data. So basically the idea is to install opensuse and than setup the domain name the path where your files are stored and whether you need a raid to provide redundancy. This could be all wrapped up in a nice interface so that non it pros are able to setup there box with a few steps. Opensuse would be the first distribution making a setup of a home server as easy as it can be. People just need to download opensuse and than click a few buttons to setup there own server environment. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/317724
