There are times we need to use windows applications. Wine applications
does not integrate well with with rest of desktop.
There is no menu entry for wine settings. Also there should be menu for
reboot wine. Proper icons for win apps. - done
better desktop shortcuts creation for kde and gnome.
Menu for wine notepad, command prompt and other provided utilities by
wine.- done
Also integration with mono for running .Net application ( because some
win .net apps uses win librearies.) - wine mono provides some
I use wine mostly for Heidisql (Mysql admin tool) and some time for
For menu I think menu structure should be like this
KDE/Gnome menu>Applications>Wine>(From here it should be similar to All
programs menu of win xp) - done
Another issue that I found is that uninstalled win app did not removed
from the Menu.
Virtual cd drive support - very useful for playing windows games
better integration with kde/gnome themes.
Better file browser - it must have 'My computer' functionality.

I agree that wine couldn't be integrated well enough, however I see
program icons of wine programs in the KDE start menu. exe programs are
automatically started in wine when clicking on them.
But apart from that, what other integrations would you like to see?

#2: Mindaugas Baranauskas (embar-) (2009-11-23 04:04:55)
First, winecfg  in Wine menu :)
Assign to open exe with wine (if it is not already realised)

Also wine is not installed by default.  A new linux user may want to
run a Windows exe.  Maybe opensuse can detect that a user is trying a
run a Windows exe and prompt the user to install wine along with a
brief description of what wine is and will do.

Shouldn't these be filed with Wine project since it already creates
menu items and such? Simply add one for config?

Great idea!

We need additional feature, like profiles for different windows
Games: Civilization IV, Starcraft
Multimedia application: Virtualdubmod

Yes. I think, that we need PlayOnLinux or Vineyard solution integrated.
We need also script to detect application on media like CDs, when user
tries to run exe file from removable media and suggest to run
Vineyard/PlayOnLinux installer instead.

So, who is working on wine feature?

#8: Sławomir Lach (lachu) (2010-06-30 12:49:48)
We need to suggest of using native Windows DLL if Windows is installed
on other patition. Not all native DLLs should been used, but only this,
which doesn't provide problems. Also, once Windows parition is
removed/unreadable we should show message at startup, that Wine won't
use native dlls and some applications could been broken.

#9: Sławomir Lach (lachu) (2010-06-30 12:51:35) (reply to #8)
This idea will make Wine developers work more noise, because more bugs
report will been created by users using native dlls, but much more
programs we can run this way.

One nice feature would be the automatic use of the KDE colours and
fonts in Wine. I don’t think it’s very difficult to accomplish. (I once
wrote a simple bash script for setting the Wine colours to the current
KDE colours, but it would need to be updated for KDE 4, which uses
different colours names and a more complex way of organising the

#14: Lukas Krejza (gryffus) (2013-01-02 15:32:02)
Regarding to virtual cd drive support - there is acetoneiso which does
all that and more...

+ #15: Lukas Krejza (gryffus) (2013-01-02 15:43:11)
+ Also we can implement autorun.inf functionality in kde device notifier,
+ i think ubuntu has something like that? It should not be hard to
+ uplmement...
