Feature added by: Elmar Stellnberger (estellnb)

Feature #313119, revision 1
Title: provide a BD/ Blue Ray download image for openSUSE

openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed
Priority
Requester: Mandatory

Requested by: Elmar Stellnberger (estellnb)
Partner organization: openSUSE.org

Description:
A ready-to-download blue ray image of openSUSE would be a pleasure for anyone
who has to work offline from time to time since it will allow you to do and
install everything without an internet conncetion. Currently we only have a
netinstall CD for backbone internet and a DVD as install medium for average
internet connections. However a blue ray image to install and work completely
offline - as this was initially possible just within the size of a DVD in the
early days of linux (openSUSE 9.3) - would be of much greater value than a DVD
providing not much more than a package cache for a minimized first-place
install system. Such a blue ray could not only contain the full rpm-set of the
core distribution but also important 2nd party repos like those provided by
ATI, Nvidia and Packman as well as the most important repos from the
BuildService like the SELinux repo for instance. Debian does already provide a
fully-downloadable distribution image; however in the form of 8 DVDs + Update
DVDs which may for sure be less practical than a single BD. However this seems
to be considered much more a security feature in Debian. Mandatory for the
Requester as certain working scenarios require a full system image for external
or optical media.
