Use Case: When you encounter a bug in a package and you need it to be fixed ASAP, waiting for the openSUSE to fix it may be impractical. However, there is a good chance that the bug is already fixed upstream, either explicitly or by the way. The project teams publish unsupported recent versions of packages compiled for supported versions of the distribution; it would be a good idea to experiment with such an unofficial update first.
