Dear Dr. Fink,
thank you very much for you kind help. With the emacs from the editors repo, the fonts are fine, so this problem is sorted.
Emacs also doesn't give me a load of messages in the terminal, so that is fine, too.
But I still am unable to pass the file name as an argument.
bash-> emacs test.txt &
still opens Emacs with scratch and I have to open the file from within Emacs.
Could you please help me?
Hmmm ... I can not repeoduce this. Are you using emacs as a daemon server? But even with, it should work as it does here. Please do a bash -x emacs test.txt 2> trace.log without ampersand at the end ... what does trace.log show? Also Id like to see the output of type emacs and locale as well as what does happen if you start emacs -Q test.txt also without ampersand Werner -- "Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool." -- Edward Burr
