That's very hard to know, every piece of private setup or scripts
might be hit by such a change, and that's the problem of this kind of
change which is hard to get through...

I virtually always boot from stanzas that use symlinks. They are much easier
especially from grub> prompts trying to rescue an errant bootloader
installation.

Debian hasn't seen fit to follow Fedora's lead. initrd vs initramfs is a
distinction without a difference, except to make life easier for a few and
harder
for more than a few.
