AFAIK, both gdm and lightdm should support XDMCP. But what does this have to do with (the lack of) kdm themes? Note that kdm should still work the same without kdm-branding-openSUSE. It will just look different by default... And a theme is just a bunch of graphics files (plus an .xml and a .desktop file) anyway. It would be easy to copy them over from a previous openSUSE version, or even create an rpm package with the old files.
